AI can turn a cloud of scuba bubbles into an early warning for divers
University of Minnesota researchers have developed an AI system that can estimate a diver’s breathing rate by analyzing the bubbles released with each exhalation using ordinary camera footage. The method is contactless and eliminates the need for additional sensors on a diver’s equipment. The findings were published in The International Journal of Robotics Research.
