Cache Aware Scheduling Fixes Queued For Submission To Linux 7.3, Backporting To 7.2
Intel engineer Tim Chen has merged a series of bug fixes for the Cache Aware Scheduling feature into the Linux kernel's urgent branch. These patches address issues related to task grouping on CPU cores sharing the same last level cache to improve locality and reduce latency. The fixes are scheduled for submission to the Linux 7.3 kernel and will also be backported to the 7.2 release.
- ▪Cache Aware Scheduling aims to group related tasks on CPU cores sharing the same last level cache to enhance performance.
- ▪Intel engineer Tim Chen developed patches to fix bugs in the feature, including handling kernel threads and CPU hotplugs.
- ▪The patches were merged into the sched/urgent branch of the tip/tip.git repository.
- ▪These fixes are queued for the Linux 7.3 kernel cycle and marked for backporting to Linux 7.2.
- ▪Previous fixes in the current cycle addressed Cache Aware Scheduling for hybrid CPUs.

Cache Aware Scheduling Fixes Queued For Submission To Linux 7.3, Backporting To 7.2 Written by Michael Larabel in Hardware on 22 September 2026 at 06:32 AM EDT. Add A Comment Later this week it looks like the latest round of Cache Aware Scheduling fixes will be merged for enhancing this kernel scheduler functionality for grouping related tasks together on CPU cores that share the same last level cache (LLC). Cache Aware Scheduling can lead to better cache locality and lower latency by avoiding the costs of potential cache bouncing -- that is when bugs don't get in the way. Intel engineer TIm Chen has been sorting out some CAS bugs since the introduction of this feature in the mainline Linux 7.2 kernel.
