Carleton University team launches platform for digital twin of Canada

Stephen Fai dreams of building another Canada. What he envisions is not a replacement country but a parallel version of it online. His goal is to provide a repository for all manner of data on buildings, communities and landscapes, which can be updated to reflect changes in the real world. For those who create and manage physical spaces, it is a way of tracking what exists and experimenting with what could be. Such a creation is known as a digital twin. The term was first coined by a NASA engineer in 2010 and has since been applied to a wide range of structures and systems.But Dr. Fai, who directs the Carleton Immersive Media Studio at Carleton University in Ottawa, has long had something grander in mind.
