Central Saanich celebrates 75 years with a cake, choir and classic cars
Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor led a crowd in a spontaneous rendition of Happy Birthday on Saturday afternoon as hundreds gathered to celebrate the community’s 75th anniversary. Children’s games, live music, community groups, food trucks, classic cars and plenty more filled the grassy lawn of Centennial Park to mark decades since the small, agricultural town split from the District of Saanich in 1951. Residents young and old lined up to snag one of the 800 pieces of birthday cake.

Norma Sealey has fond memories of growing up on a farm that’s now the site of the baseball diamonds at Hovey Road and Wallace Drive, right next to the park where families celebrated this year’s milestone.
