Collector organises mangrove sapling plantation drive in Nagapattinam
Marking World Mangrove Day, a mangrove sapling plantation drive was held on the banks of the Uppanar at Sembodai in Vedaranyam taluk in Nagapattinam on Sunday. Praveen Kumar said Namma Nagai Koottam would organise a range of activities every month, including blood donation camps, used clothes donation drives, old book collection campaigns, and other community welfare programmes. He said the initiative began with a beach clean-up drive at Nagore while the mangrove plantation programme marked its second major event.He said mangrove forests are among the world’s most unique and valuable coastal ecosystems, and they naturally thrive in estuarine regions where seawater and freshwater meet.
