ECOWAS Court dismisses SERAP suit challenging Nigeria’s public borrowing
SERAP sued the Nigerian government at the ECOWAS Court, alleging persistent and unsustainable borrowing by the government, which it said resulted in a substantial public debt burden that undermined the State’s capacity to provide essential public services.

Add us on Google The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, has delivered its judgment in case No. ECW/CCJ/APP/05/22 brought by Incorporated Trustees of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) challenging the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s public borrowing. The Court dismissed the case on the grounds that the Applicant, SERAP failed to provide sufficient proof (legal and factual) to substantiate its claims that the Respondent’s alleged excessive and unsustainable borrowing resulted in violations of the socio-economic rights of Nigerians.
