GNOME OS Turns To Zswap To Deal With OOM Issues, Progress On Geary Email Client Fork
GNOME OS has implemented Zswap by default to mitigate out-of-memory issues and improve system responsiveness on devices with limited memory. This update utilizes a Rust-based script to configure systemd settings while allowing users to disable the feature via kernel command-line arguments. Additionally, the third-party email client Convey has launched on Flathub as a modernized fork of Geary with enhanced compatibility and user interface improvements.
- ▪GNOME OS now uses Zswap by default to address out-of-memory problems and maintain system performance.
- ▪A Rust-based zswap-generator script is employed to create the necessary systemd configuration for the Zswap feature.
- ▪The Zswap functionality can be disabled by users by adding zswap.enabled=0 to the kernel command-line.
- ▪Convey, a fork of the Geary email client, has been released on Flathub with added Microsoft 365 support.
- ▪The Convey client has been ported to the GTK4 toolkit and includes various UI and UX enhancements over the original Geary.

Add A Comment In addition to this week's GNOME 51 release were several other exciting developments in the GNOME desktop space. For GNOME OS is now a documentation website with guides and other information to help users in trying out GNOME OS and carryout related setup. GNOME OS is also now employing Zswap to help with a fast and responsive system even if your system doesn't have too much memory. This change should help those that have experienced out-of-memory issues on GNOME OS with Zswap set to be used by default.
