Google could flip Watch Unlock around with a new Pixel feature
Google is reportedly developing a new feature that would allow a Pixel phone to unlock when a Pixel Watch is nearby, reversing the current Watch Unlock functionality. The existing Watch Unlock lets users unlock their watch using the phone, while the new approach would unlock the phone using the watch. The feature is still in development and has no confirmed release timeline.
- ▪The current Watch Unlock feature enables users to unlock their Pixel Watch automatically when their Pixel phone is detected nearby.
- ▪Google is testing a reverse mechanism that would unlock the Pixel phone when the Pixel Watch is in proximity.
- ▪The potential feature is being explored for upcoming devices such as the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Watch 2, but no release date has been announced.
