Google may turn Gemini into the one place ads shouldn’t go
Google is reconsidering its stance on advertising within the Gemini app, which was previously stated to be ad-free. Recent comments from company executives suggest that ad placements could be introduced in the future. This shift raises concerns about user privacy in a platform designed for personal conversations.
- ▪Google initially claimed there would be no ads in the Gemini app and had no plans to change that.
- ▪In December 2025, it was reported that Google was targeting ad placements for Gemini in 2026.
- ▪The Chief Business Officer indicated that ad formats from Search AI Mode could be adapted for Gemini, suggesting a potential shift in strategy.
