How you can stop your cat from bringing home unwelcome pathogens
Cats that roam outdoors are significantly more likely to carry zoonotic pathogens than indoor-only cats, according to a review of over 400 studies. The research found that outdoor-owned cats have similar odds of harboring at least one zoonotic pathogen as feral cats, and they can transmit these agents to humans, wildlife, and other domestic animals. The authors suggest that limiting unsupervised outdoor access for pet cats could reduce the spread of disease.
