What is his realistic 2026 fantasy outlook, and how might his presence impact Christian McCaffrey, Jordan James, and Isaac Guerendo?First, Guerendo’s brief fantasy glory in 2024 seems like a long time ago. A fifth-round pick last year, James demonstrated bell-cow chops at Oregon and seemed poised to take over as McCaffrey’s handcuff. Now his camp battle with Black will be one of the most important in fantasy.Why? Because, as I’ve written before, McCaffrey is a high-probability injury and/or regression risk. Based on historical data, his 450 touches last season (including the playoffs) put the nearly 30-year-old in the “do not draft under any circumstances” category. Load management would make him a fantasy bust. So would an injury. One of these two scenarios is likely.While that’s probably not why San Francisco drafted Black, it’s a convenient outcome. The incoming rookie netted 15+ carries in eight collegiate contests and totaled 52 receptions. Like James, he seems capable of taking over 1A duties if McCaffrey is sidelined.So keep a close eye on whether Black or James wins the #2 job, and if possible, draft both guys about a round earlier than their ADPs.
