Muse AI on Xteink X3 E-reader
A developer successfully integrated the Muse AI SDK onto the Xteink X3 e-reader to create a portable, Wi-Fi-connected productivity device. The project required significant memory optimization to fit within the ESP32-C3's limited 321 KB RAM and 52 KB screen buffer. The final prototype allows users to manage priorities, workouts, and notes directly on the e-paper display using the device's physical buttons.
- ▪The Xteink X3 utilizes an ESP32-C3 processor with only 321 KB of total RAM and no additional memory chip.
- ▪The developer had to modify the SDK to reduce memory usage because the default Wi-Fi and Bluetooth code consumed approximately 90 KB.
- ▪Screen rendering is constrained to a single 52 KB buffer, requiring images to be dithered as they arrive to avoid creating duplicate copies.
- ▪The device maintains the last displayed image in the display controller's memory to enable fast 650 ms page turns without accessing flash storage.
- ▪The project leverages screen driver sequences from the FreeInk SDK, which was built by the CrossPoint Reader community through reverse engineering.

Muse Gadget: Just how portable can you get?Muse.ai on Xteink X32026-10-04All writingI've been trying to tweak my Xteink X3 to hook up to my AI setup, just because it's small, portable and I thought it would be fun. 2 weeks later, I realised there literally was nothing much I could add. I started where everyone started with Crosspoint and then moved to flowe-os. But I was kinda disappointed with what I was getting. Then I saw the Muse Gadget SDK and I knew this would be crazy fun. It said it supports ESP32 boards but Xteink X3 uses a smaller version. So I loaded it up and started twiddling and I had a beautiful prototype within a couple hours. What I got it to do Basic e-paper display stuff connected to a home wifi.
