Igalia has resumed work on new FUTEX system call patches to improve Linux kernel support for ARM64 gaming. These updates aim to enhance the efficiency of the FEX emulator for running x86 games on devices like the Steam Frame. The latest patch version was released after resolving a race condition and rebasing against the mainline kernel.
- ▪Igalia is developing new FUTEX get_robust_list2 and set_robust_list2 system calls to address shortcomings in existing kernel implementations.
- ▪The patches are designed to better align with the needs of FEX-Emu and other emulation layers for x86/x86_64 games on ARM64 hardware.
- ▪André Almeida of Igalia posted the updated patch series, which includes adaptations to VDSO changes and other code improvements.
- ▪The release of these updates was delayed by the need to address a specific race condition in the code.
