OpenAI to Add Watermarks on ChatGPT's Text Outputs, But Only in the EU
ChatGPT will start including an “invisible watermark” on text outputs to comply with European Union regulations, OpenAI announced on Monday, but it will only apply to users in the EU. “In the EU, we’ll start watermarking eligible text from ChatGPT and Codex over the coming weeks to comply with the EU AI Act,” OpenAI tweeted. That said, it’s possible the change could appear outside the EU for other AI services that rely on OpenAI. That’s because enterprise customers worldwide who use OpenAI’s API can also opt into the text-based watermarking.
