OpenCourant: Rocky Linux Developers Create Community Fork Of OpenRadioss
Siemens abruptly shut down the OpenRadioss project by removing its GitHub repository and associated resources. In response, Rocky Linux founder Brian Clemens launched OpenCourant as a community fork to preserve the software. The new project is based on the last available open-source snapshot and will be managed under the Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation.
- ▪Siemens terminated the four-year-old OpenRadioss project by deleting its code repository and related resources.
- ▪Brian Clemens, founder of Rocky Linux, initiated OpenCourant as a community continuation of the discontinued solver.
- ▪OpenCourant is built from the final public snapshot of OpenRadioss and retains the GNU AGPLv3 license.
- ▪The project faces challenges due to missing binary dependencies that were not fully open-sourced before the shutdown.

OpenCourant: Rocky Linux Developers Create Community Fork Of OpenRadioss Written by Michael Larabel in Free Software on 4 October 2026 at 01:51 PM EDT. Add A Comment This week was the surprising and unfortunate decision of Siemens shutting down the OpenRadioss project as the four year old open-source project started by Altair Engineering with their prominent Radioss finite element solver. Siemens didn't just end the project but they shutdown the GitHub repository that hosted the open-source code and removed other resources that had built around it. Fortunately, there's a new community fork of OpenRadioss as OpenCourant. Brian Clemens as the Founder and Vice President of Rocky Linux and the Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation (RESF) launched OpenCourant as a community fork of OpenRadioss.
