Russia tries to jam Musk's Starlink systems to counter Ukrainian drones
Russian forces are deploying electronic jamming systems to disrupt the Starlink satellite internet used by Ukrainian mid‑range drones. Ukraine’s drone units have responded by targeting and destroying some of these jamming installations. Both sides are also employing camouflage and civilian vehicles to transport military supplies and evade detection.
- ▪Ukraine’s mid‑strike drones, which rely on Starlink for remote control, have been used to hit Russian logistics and fuel depots deep behind the front line
- ▪Russia has introduced a jamming device called Volna Kupol Garant that can block Starlink signals over an area of about 20 square kilometres, with roughly ten units detected so far
- ▪Ukrainian drone crews have carried out attacks on at least two of these jamming sites, destroying the equipment and restoring their drones’ connectivity
- ▪Russian troops are masking supply convoys in civilian cars, trucks and agricultural structures to conceal fuel and ammunition movements
