Concealing cocaine in commercial shipments of fresh fruit, particularly bananas from Ecuador, is a well-known method used by criminal actors, including groups from the Balkans. The Vado Ligure seizure, therefore, fits a broader pattern of maritime cocaine trafficking into Europe.
