Tamil Nadu government cannot restrict maternity leave to just 12 weeks for third pregnancy: Madras High Court
The Madras High Court has struck down a Tamil Nadu government order that limited maternity leave to 12 weeks for the third pregnancy of women government employees, stating there was no justification for the restriction. The order contrasted with the existing policy of granting 365 days of maternity leave for the first two pregnancies. The court emphasized equal treatment and protection of women's rights in service rules. The ruling reinstates full maternity benefits for third pregnancies under the same conditions.
