A woman died from her injuries after a tree along the Matthew Henson Trail in Aspen Hill fell on her during storms on Thursday. The tree fell in an area of the trail near Hewitt Avenue at around 9 p.m. Thursday, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue public information officer Pete Piringer said in a video posted on social media. The victim was pinned, critically injured and ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Piringer also noted that the victim had a leadership role in a local volunteer fire department, saying that “we too are grieving at this loss to our community.” He added that her family asked for privacy and that county fire officials would not be releasing any more information on the incident.
