A particularly common approach is to configure all top-mounted fans as exhaust. While this may sound logical, in traditional PC cases with air coolers it can have the opposite effect. With a small adjustment to the fan orientation, the processor can often be run at a lower temperature at no extra cost. The crux of the problem lies in the interaction between the front and top fans. In most mid-tower cases, cool air flows into the case from the front.
