AI can reason like a doctor, study says
A new study published in Science found that OpenAI's reasoning AI model o1 can diagnose real-life medical cases as accurately or more accurately than physicians. The model outperformed both its predecessor, GPT-4, and a group of medical professionals when tested on emergency department cases. Researchers evaluated diagnostic accuracy using electronic health records from a Boston hospital, with the AI achieving correct diagnoses over two-thirds of the time.
