El notición llegó cuando el fabricante de automóviles eléctricos Tesla anunció, en 2014, que ponía en marcha un macroproyecto de fábrica de baterías, al que llamó gigafactoría, denominación que pasó a ser utilizada universalmente cuando se habla de estas futuras fábricas. Recordemos que el prefijo giga significa mil millones.
