The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday granted time to the nine policemen, who were sentenced to death by a trial court in Madurai for the custodial death of trader P. Jayaraj, 58, and his son J. Benicks, 31, at Sattankulam in Thoothukudi district in June 2020, to file their appeals against the trial court judgment.A Division Bench of Justices N. Anand Venkatesh and K.K. Ramakrishnan, hearing the referred trial, granted time to the nine convicts: the then Sattankulam Inspector, S. Sridhar; Sub-Inspectors P. Raghu Ganesh and K. Balakrishnan; Head Constables S. Murugan and A. Saamidurai; and Constables M. Muthuraj, S. Chelladurai, X. Thomas Francis, and S. Veilumuthu.
