KDE Plasma 6.8 Improvements For UI, Built-In Remote Desktop Server
KDE Plasma 6.8 introduces several user interface refinements and functional updates. New notifications alert users when printing to unavailable printers, and task manager thumbnails receive improved padding and clearer labeling. The built-in remote desktop server has been fixed to prevent black screens and now offers lower latency and better performance on poor network connections.
- ▪Printing to an unavailable printer now triggers a notification instead of failing silently.
- ▪Task manager thumbnails have nicer padding and the UI provides clearer messages when creating new user accounts.
- ▪The built-in remote desktop server issue that could cause a black screen has been resolved, and latency has been reduced for sub‑optimal network conditions.
- ▪Clipboard pop‑up windows are loaded on demand rather than at launch, reducing memory usage.

KDE Plasma 6.8 Improvements For UI, Built-In Remote Desktop Server Written by Michael Larabel in KDE on 7 August 2026 at 09:01 PM EDT. Add A Comment It's been another busy summertime week of KDE developers working toward a great Plasma 6.8 desktop release in October. This Week in Plasma is out today with its newest issue to highlight all the interesting changes for the week. With Plasma 6.8 if attempting to print to a printer that's unavailable, there's now a notification to alert you to this fact rather than silently failing. Also with Plasma 6.8, Task Manager thumbnails provide nicer padding around labels near the tops, more clear UI reporting over restrictions such as on usernames/passwords when creating new user accounts, and more.
