Maine 18-year-old charged in death of paddleboarder ruled competent to stand trial
An 18-year-old Maine man, Deven Young, charged with the murder of paddleboarder Sunshine Stewart, has been ruled competent to stand trial by a Maine judge. Stewart, 48, was found dead in July 2025 after going missing at Crawford Pond in Union, Maine, and the medical examiner determined her cause of death was strangulation and blunt force trauma. Young, who was 17 at the time of the incident, is currently treated as a juvenile but prosecutors are seeking to try him as an adult.
