Southwest Headquarters Tour
The tour group visited Southwest's Network Operations Center (NOC), the central hub for managing the airline's daily operations, currently undergoing construction. They learned about real-time decision-making processes, including flight disruptions and the use of tools like 'The Baker' for scheduling optimization. The NOC coordinates all aspects of flight operations, from crew and maintenance to weather and air traffic, with live monitoring of gates and flights across the network.
- ▪The Network Operations Center is the operational brain of Southwest, coordinating all flight planning and execution.
- ▪Experts from various disciplines work together in the NOC, including dispatchers, meteorologists, and maintenance teams.
- ▪A flight can be grounded for safety-critical issues like a malfunctioning exit row tray table or an inoperative lavatory.
- ▪Southwest operates around 4,000 flights daily, more than any other U.S. airline.
- ▪The NOC can livestream any of Southwest’s airport gates in real time for operational monitoring.
