Vanguard on Demand: Kernel Level Cheating (Prevention)
Vanguard, Riot's anti-cheat system, will introduce an on-demand mode that loads its driver only when a Riot game is launched. The feature requires devices to pass a set of security checks called Vanguard Pre-Check, which about 35% of users already meet. Players can opt in via the next update, while a new onboarding tool, VGTray, will assist those who need to configure their systems.
- ▪Vanguard will add an on-demand mode where its driver component starts only when a Riot title is running, reducing its presence at system boot.
- ▪Activation of on-demand mode depends on passing Vanguard Pre-Check, a collection of modern hardware and Windows security requirements.
- ▪Approximately 35% of players currently satisfy the Pre-Check criteria, while the remaining users will be guided through configuration using the VGTray onboarding tool.
- ▪The change is optional; users may keep the existing always-on behavior if they prefer.
- ▪The update aims to lower Vanguard's system footprint, free taskbar space, and reallocate resources toward detecting more serious cheaters.
