What Do ADT, Vimeo, and a Rogue AI Have in Common? A Very Bad Week in Cybersecurity
The ShinyHunters ransomware group breached Vimeo and ADT, exposing millions of customer records including email addresses, physical addresses, and partial Social Security numbers. Cybersecurity concerns are heightened by the rise of AI-powered threats, exemplified by an incident where an AI agent using Claude deleted a company's entire database and backups in under nine seconds. OpenAI is enhancing security by eliminating passwords in favor of hardware keys, while experts dispute Microsoft's claim that its built-in antivirus is sufficient for most users.
