Child homelessness hits record high on eve of Labour’s rental reforms
The number of homeless children in temporary accommodation in England has reached a record high of 176,130 as of December 2025, according to official government statistics. Despite this, the total number of households in temporary accommodation saw a slight quarterly decline for the first time since 2022. The data was released just before the implementation of Labour’s Renter’s Rights Act, aimed at strengthening tenant protections and ending 'no-fault' evictions.
