Chonkers the Steller Sea Lion pays San Francisco a visit Jason Weisberger 8:34 am Tue Apr 28, 2026 Chonkers the Steller Sea Lion Chonkers, a very large Steller's Sea Lion, is visiting San Francisco's Pier 39. Threatened to near extinction, but making a strong comeback, the Steller Sea Lion is a big boi. Adult males can approach 2500 lbs. Chonkers looks pretty healthy and doesn't seem to be suffering malnutrition. Seems he enjoys hanging out with his smaller relatives, California Sea Lions, and is drawing crowds when he visits the pier.
